Please remember to bring your shoe purchases! We will be getting them together after this Tuesday AM Meeting, if you can help that would be great. If you have any questions, please contact Gary Smedile.
Are you interested in helping improve law enforcement in Gladstone?
For several years Gladstone has operated a volunteer program called Volunteers in Police Service or VIPS. This program was developed by the International Association of Chiefs of Police partially in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The VIPS program provides opportunities for concerned citizens to assist the police by participating in a range of activities that uniformed officers and administrative staff cannot because of other demands on their time.
While VIPS is a police assistance endeavor, it does not involve policing activities or any action for which a sworn and trained police officer is required.
Interested VIPS candidates receive a complete background check. In fact, VIPS receive the same background check that sworn Police Officers receive. Those wishing to apply for the program must have a clean record and be willing to undergo rigorous background reviews. Upon approval, the VIPS will be issued a VIPS uniform and an official identification credential.
The City generally expects a minimum 2 hours per week commitment although some VIPS spend considerably more time. The VIPS program is flexible and tries to accommodate individuals’ personal schedules.
The Police Department is now accepting VIPS applications. Please call 423-4049 if you are interested. Persons can also receive an application by mail or by e-mail. The VIPS e-mail address is: VIPS@gladstone.mo.us.
