Our members rise early in the morning, braving the elements, on the Kansas City Royals baseball home opener to head to six area intersections in Gladstone to sell special edition Kansas City Star newspapers for that day.  The crews man the designated areas to receive generous donations from those passing by or heading to work.  The community members of Gladstone have come to expect to see us representing our Rotary Club on Opening Day and they make sure they take our route to wherever they are headed that morning.  We have received many outstanding donations for the newspapers because people understand the great cause of helping our unfortunate youth.  Each club member that participates not only receives the satisfaction of helping out a great charity, but they also receive a free ticket to the Opening Day ball game, two complementary tickets to a regular season game, and various other coupons good at area Kansas City businesses.  After the hard work is over, it is a wonderful time for our members to be able to socialize, relax, and enjoy celebrating the donations collected earlier that morning by attending the Opening Day game together as a group that is willing to put "Service Above Self."

Greater KC Days

Greater Kansas City Day
Opening Day is not only the beginning of the baseball season, but also a day to make a difference for disadvantaged youth in Kansas City. On Greater KC Day, more than 1,600 volunteers team up with area celebrities to sell special editions of The Kansas City Star. One hundred percent of the proceeds of Greater KC Day benefit the Rotary Youth Camp and other deserving children's charities. Greater Kansas City Day is a partnership between the Royals, The Kansas City Star, Kansas City area Rotary Clubs and YOU!
